Music

Orchestra: Sea Park offers Beginning and Intermediate String Orchestra classes to students in 5th and 6th grade. Instruction is given twice a week during the regular school day on violin, viola, cello and bass. The school owns instruments which can be rented at a reasonable cost, making the program very accessible. We also have a professional string consultant, Mr. Carey Moorman, who helps Ms. Mott teach these classes. Concerts are presented each semester. Fifth grade students make up the beginning class and sixth grade students who completed the beginning class or have previous experience are placed in the Intermediate Orchestra.

Chorus: Chorus is open to all students in 4th-6th grade. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays after school from 2:30-3:20. Each year we perform two major concerts (winter and spring) as well as other performances both on and off campus, including Elementary Music Festival for select students in March.

Elementary Music Festival: Brevard Public Schools hosts an Elementary Music Festival each year in February/March. The Festival includes a concert of Chorus and Orchestra music presented by students selected from each elementary school. Students sing in a mass chorus of over 200 students or play in Beginning or Intermediate orchestras of around 50 students each. Sea Park is allocated a certain number of positions each year and they are filled based on ability, dependability, and good citizenship. Festival students participate in extra rehearsals and receive additional instruction under outstanding guest conductors who lead each group. The festival gives students the opportunity to perform in a major concert hall, The Maxwell King Center, on the campus of Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne.

Musically yours,

Ms. Mott
